Online body shaming is a widespread issue, yet still poorly documented. There is a lack of structured and accessible data that can help understand the scale and dynamics of the problem. The goal was to make these insights visible and easy to explore — not just for experts, but also for educators, policy makers, anyone working with young audiences, and of course teenagers.
To create a smooth and engaging experience, designed as a sequence of mobile-first stories inspired by social media formats. Each story helps users explore, understand, and reflect on the phenomenon through data, quotes, and simple visual narratives.
We processed datasets from seven European countries—cleaning, analysing and comparing them—to surface compelling insights and trends.
Interface design: designed with mobile-first in mind, the tap-based layout leads users through thematic chapters in a smooth, intuitive journey.
Data visualisation: interactive charts and visuals were crafted for maximum clarity and accessibility, tailored especially to engage younger audiences.
Engagement: this isn’t just data—it’s an invitation to think, discuss and act: the platform turns numbers into meaningful conversations.
Each story helps users explore, understand, and reflect on the phenomenon through data, quotes, and simple visual narratives.
Body image and online interaction deeply influence how young people experience the digital space. Through design and storytelling, stophatespeech.eu transforms survey results into a clear and relatable narrative, giving visibility to real experiences and creating space for reflection and change. With contributions from hundreds of young participants across Europe, the project makes visible a phenomenon that often goes unnoticed. It offers accessible data and country-specific reports that can be used by educators, organisations, and decision-makers, encouraging broader awareness and dialogue.
